This study pilots ChatGPT in meeting these challenges.I used one performance expectation of the Next Generation Science Standards to develop a prompt, using which ChatGPT automatically generates a performance-based assessment task.I supplied a response and asked ChatGPT to grade and provide feedback.I then asked ChatGPT to provide learning guidance and learning materials based on the response. At last, I told ChatGPT that the learner was dyslexic, and eventually ChatGPT recommended specific learning materials for the learner.

This paper provides an overview of key definitions related to ChatGPT, a public tool developed by OpenAI, and its underlying technology, GPT. The paper discusses the history and technology of GPT, including its generative pre-trained transformer model, its ability to perform a wide range of language-based tasks, and how ChatGPT utilizes this technology to function as a sophisticated chatbot.

How does ChatGPT, and other forms of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) affect the way we have been conducting—and evaluating—academic research, teaching, and business practice? What are the implications for the theory and practice of marketing? What are the opportunities and threats, and what are some interesting avenues for future research? This editorial aims to kick off an initial discussion and stimulate research that will help us better understand how the marketing field can fully exploit the potential of GenAI and effectively cope with its challenges.

This rapid review of the literature aims to enrich our understanding of ChatGPT’s capabilities across subject domains, how it can be used in education, and potential issues raised by researchers during the first three months of its release (i.e., December 2022 to February 2023).
